ROBINSON
Robinson, a multi-instrumentalist hailing from Worcester, England, delivers his music in the form of a story. Inspirations drawn from Dylan, Waits and Martyn, this 26 year-old tells tales of life by using music drenched in melody and harmony. With a debut album released, Robinson is striving for more.
Once upon a time there was a Lord Burgess who was a very wealthy and respected landowner at the turn of the last century. He had butlers, servants and most importantly maids to wait on him hand and foot.
This ‘Lord’ ended up having his wicked way with one of his maids, therefore leaving the mother no other choice but to abandon her bastard child and give him to the orphanage. This bastard of a baby was Robinson’s great grandfather, who turned out to be a coal mining alcoholic.
Robinson insists that this family background has been a trigger for his creativity; however, his music is influenced by the likes of Dylan and Waits. Inspirations are endless and ongoing, from the readings of Charles Bukowski and other beatniks to the darker gothic sounds of Eastern Europe.
Whether it be guitar, piano, clarinet or sax, Robinson’s melodies are pulled from many lovers. Where does the story go from here? Will Robinson echo the life of his great grandfather or is there something much better waiting around the corner?
VOODOUN MOI
Voodoun Moi is funky, jazzy and new. We use these qualities in our music subtly, but if you asked us to funk you silly we could, and we would. If you’re wondering what Voodoun Moi means, its means, if you’re down I’m down. So in other words, if you’re not down, we are still down.
A spit funking, jazz invoking brainchild from the head of 18-year-old Genevieve Bellemare. Born in Canada but swept into Oregon when 8 years old.
Genevieve writes all the material with the help of Eric Valentine, a student of modern music. Her lyrical twist accompanies a top line melody that teases as well as seduces and never fails to climax. Surrounded by the grey unyielding clouds of Oregon, Genevieve found a core of brilliant young musicians that formed the band Voodoun Moi. This was just after she won ‘Band of the Year,” in Eugene when she was 17 years old.
THE SOMEBODYS
The Somebodys are an eclectic group of Producers who came together under the musical direction of John Campbell during his time as Co-Manager of ROBIN GIBB of the BEE GEES.
Having worked first hand for over 5 years with the Bee Gees songs, John wanted to make an album that would cast a completely contemporary slant on these great tracks. He wanted to do it using artists who were not shackled by their own Recording deals with Majors.
This allowed the creative freedom to be able to record these tracks in a style that was free and unhindered by established interpretation. Pete / Steve Lewinson, The Musical Shed and Michael Kwesi Graves are all members of The Somebodys.
The results are stunning. Robin Gibb himself has said “these are amongst some of the best Bee Gees covers I’ve ever heard…”
